Cardanit
Cardanit is a collaborative, cloud-based BPMN and DMN modeling tool developed by ESTECO, an Italian software company. The modeler is designed for creating Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) and Decision Model and Notation (DMN) diagrams, which are essential for visually representing business processes and decisions.

History (2013-)
In 2013, Cardanit was released by ESTECO out of a Research and Development project working on a BPMN editor. Initially named BeePMN[1], it was then rebranded Cardanit in 2019.[2][3] Cardanit addresses the market need for a BPMN and DMN modeling tool that could be used by both experienced Business Process Management (BPM) specialists and people who lack the necessary skills and knowledge. Since its initial release, the software has undergone continuous development and refinement.
In 2016, Cardanit (back then still BeePMN) became one of the tools participating in the annual Model Interchange Capability demos of the BPMN Model Interchange Working Group (BPMN MIWG).[4][5]
In 2020, Cardanit was one of the tools participating in MWIG tests during the BPMN MIWG capability demonstration 2020.[6][7][8][9]
In 2021, ESTECO chose the Lanner L-Sim software as the basis for implementing process simulation capability in Cardanit.[10]
Over the years, Cardanit has been featured in several research publications.[11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19]
Features and Capabilities
Cardanit comes with a set of features and capabilities to create and manage BPMN and DMN diagrams. Some of its key features include:
- Graphical Interface: The modeler provides a graphical interface that allows users to drag and drop BPMN or DMN elements onto the canvas, making it easy to create and modify process or decision diagrams.
- Collaborative Modeling: The tool has collaboration features, allowing multiple users to work together on the same BPMN or DMN diagram simultaneously.
- Version History: The modeler’s version control capabilities allow users to view and restore previously saved versions of projects, create a new project based on a specific project version, track changes, and delete project versions.
- Customization: Users can customize their diagrams by highlighting key activities, using brand colors and fonts for labels and annotations, aligning elements, and more.
- Documentation Export: Cardanit allows users to export BPMN and DMN diagrams in various formats, such as BPMN XML files, image files (PNG, SVG), and documentation formats (PDF, DOCX), making it easy to share and integrate the models into other BPM tools and systems.
Applications
Cardanit is used across various industries, including but not limited to Finance, Banking, Logistics and Public Administration. BPM specialists across these sectors use Cardanit to design, visualize, and improve their business processes and decisions and create comprehensive documentation that aids in communication, training, and compliance efforts.[20][21][22]
